Software Engineer, Product & Platform

Madison, Wisconsin · Remote within the United States

Part-time · Employee

We’re looking for a Software Engineer to help build and maintain the software that connects VitalSync’s product experience with its underlying services.

About the role

You’ll work on features people use, the systems supporting them, and the reliability of the connection between the two. That includes clear interfaces, dependable APIs, accurate data handling, and useful recovery when something goes wrong.

The role has broad scope, with an initial primary area of ownership agreed around your strengths and the company’s priorities.

VitalSyncLabs is building a health-context platform to help people understand what happens between medical visits. Our work connects personal experiences, health measurements, and history over time while preserving where information came from and what remains uncertain.

We’re an early-stage company based in Madison, Wisconsin. We bring together software, machine learning, and medical knowledge to build tools that support people and clinicians in understanding health—not replace their judgment.

Apply with your résumé. You may also include a GitHub profile, portfolio, LinkedIn profile, publications, or other relevant work. Please share only material you have permission to disclose; do not include patient information or confidential employer research.

What you’ll do

  • Build and improve product features across backend services, web interfaces, and app integrations.
  • Improve authentication, synchronization, background processing, and error recovery.
  • Write tests that cover complete user journeys as well as individual components.
  • Diagnose production problems and improve performance, monitoring, and deployment reliability.
  • Simplify existing code and document important decisions so the product is easier to maintain.
  • Clear API contracts and consistent behavior across connected systems.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience building and maintaining usable software through professional work or substantial projects.
  • Strong ability in a relevant language such as Python, TypeScript, or Swift.
  • An understanding of APIs, persistence, application state, and software testing.
  • The ability to investigate problems across system boundaries and communicate trade-offs clearly.
  • Careful judgment around privacy, security, and handling sensitive information.

Nice to have

  • Experience with FastAPI, relational databases, React/Next.js, or SwiftUI would be useful. You do not need experience with every part of the stack.

How we hire

We review applications for relevant experience, skills, and interest in what we’re building. If we move forward, we’ll arrange a conversation about your background, the role, and working at VitalSyncLabs. Depending on the position, we may discuss previous projects, research, or how you approach relevant problems. You’ll have time to ask questions, and we’ll explain any additional steps in advance.
